Shadows Along the Trail
9 x 12"   Acrylic on Canvas
starting bid: $99

Walking along the Stevens Creek Trail in Mountain View, the trees are dense and sheltering. The sun filters through the canopy and gives a dappled appearance to the shadows below. Beyond that, the sun is brilliant on the scrub grass and small bushes that lead down to the creek. In drought years like this, it is all rather dry.

This painting covers all sides of the canvas. You can frame it, certainly, but you can also hang it up just as it is. I'm happy to put a wire on the back.

Pewter Roses
         9 x 12"   Oil on canvas
                                                                             $125

This piece has has been a challenge as well as a pleasure to paint. Started as an experiment with a black and white photo, the idea was to produce a loose, easy piece in gentle pastel colors. Not how it ended up! It feels as much like a colored photograph or drawing as a painting, and is, well, mostly grey. Gray is not a color I naturally turn to, and mixing all the colors down to their lowest shade was a bit of an effort. But it felt right, and it felt as though I should just keep going to the finish.

This piece begs for a frame, in my opinion, but it is painted on all sides and could be hung up on the wall just as it is. I am happy to put a wire on back.

The Side Yard
           9 x 12"    Oil on canvas
                                                                  Starting bid:  $95

Each morning on our walk we pass this house. With the sun coming up over the trees the side yard gets lit up and becomes a work of art, a harmony of greens and violets with the occasional dash of orange - a symphony of  secondary colors. But the apricot tree here, old and venerable, is the star of this show.

This piece is painted on all sides of the canvas. It can be framed, but it can be hung up just as it is. I am happy to put  a wire on back.

A Cloudy Sky
14 x 11"   Oil on Canvas
The Daily Paintworks Auctions
$95

Sometime, you just need to paint the landscape. You need to paint the trees - the clouds and grass and a horizon that goes on forever. I wanted to paint all those things, but I wanted to paint with texture and cragginess, not just the look of the landscape, but the feel of it as well. I wanted the feel of those clouds moving in.

This piece is painted on all sides of the canvas. It can be framed or it could be hung up on the wall just as it is. I am happy to put a wire on back.

      Cathedral of Trees
 16 x 16 x 1.5"    Oil on Gallery-wrap Canvas
Starting bid: $295.

It seems like when you walk through a wooded area, the branches rise up, crossing overhead, joining together to create a kind of cathedral, a church made of nature. That was the idea behind this scene. It reflects my "inner landscape." It's a journey of color and light - all is vivid around me. (It may speak to you the same way.)

This piece is painted on gallery-wrapped canvas and continues on all sides of the canvas. It is meant to hang flush against the wall and does not need further framing - unless you want. It comes with a wire on back, and is ready to hang.

a
Daffodil Season
11 x 14"   Oil on Canvas
 $150

The nice thing about February is that the spring flowers begin to bloom. First the paper whites and the daffodils, then hyacinths and tulips. On the west coast, when winter usually means grey days, the bright and sunny yellow of the daffodils are like little heralds, proclaiming the coming of spring.

Painted on all sides of the canvas, this picture can be framed or hung up just as it is - I am happy to put a wire on the back.

 Happy New Year ~ 2021

a
The New Year
10 x 10"  Acrylic on canvas
$99

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2021! In this time of pandemic, that is not a clichéd phrase, but a real desire. I am not hoping for things to get "back to normal," but to move forward to a time not only beyond masks and social distancing, but of greater understanding and acceptance of one another. The winter holidays are about celebrating that which we hold dear as well as acknowledging our spiritual goals, and I hope those noble thoughts stay with us all year long.
