Rosy-fingered Dawn
9" x 12"   oil on canvas
Daily Paintworks, $75.

The Virtual Paintout is in Greece this month, and while there are many fine works depicting the whitewashed houses and church domes against an azure sea, I wanted to find something of legends and myths - but not too obvious. I resorted to the Homeric epic:
"When the child of morning, rosy-fingered Dawn, appeared, we admired the island and wandered all over it..."
From Chapter 9 of Homer's "Odyssey," this quote seemed to sum up perfectly what this painting is about... the scene itself is on the island of Lesbos, and seems to capture a sense of timelessness. It might be dawn, today, or it might be a dawn three thousand years ago.

This piece is painted on all sides, it can be framed if you like, or you can just hang it up as it is.

To see more of my work, please visit my gallery page at The Daily Paintworks, or visit one of the other sites I show at.  Facebook has several great art page, Landscape Painters is one of them. Thanks for looking!
