The Change of Seasons

Sadly, it comes - the finish of another summer. Bright, beautiful days come to an end and autumn takes over. The tomatoes and zucchini finish up, winter greens begin to grow, leaves turn color and fall, the seasons move on.
Not being a "fall" person, it took a few years to paint this one. I'd work on it a while, then put it away in favor of the winter still-lifes. Then, as the next summer ended I would pick it up and work on it some more. Always, as I painted it, this song stuck in my head. It's from Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs, called "September". I know, it's past September now - past Halloween, but it seems to fit this painting. It is beautiful music. Listen, and see if it doesn't just fit the mood of this piece.
On another note, I had the honor recently of being selected as the Women's Press Artist of the week. They chose a nice spring picture, which I thought contrasted nicely with our current season. Thank you, Sonia Paz Baronvine-Silva for choosing my artwork.
