This is a lighthearted and whimsical work, using patterns and colors to have a little fun! In these often trying times we find ourselves in, it seems a little levity is in order!

Painted on all sides of a gallery-wrapped canvas, this piece needs no framing, although you could, if you'd like. It has a wire on back and is ready to be hung up on the wall.

 Gladiolus
20 x 10"   Oil on Canvas
  $195

Too much time in solitude, no doubt! With the shelter-in-place restrictions still in effect, it has been months of painting alone. And possibly overthinking...  I wondered what would happen if you took a great master work and turned it into a floral - remove the famous figures and put some flowers in their place. I won't tell which famous masterpiece this is, but you might have guessed.

This piece is painted on all sides of a gallery-wrapped canvas and needs no further framing. It is ready to hang on the wall.

 Back Steps Menagerie
20 x 16"   Oil on Canvas
$250.

There was a collection of pots on the back porch, a menagerie of plants and flowers, light and shadow - all making interweaving patterns of shapes and colors. It was easy to see a painting come to life here.

This painting extends to all sides of a gallery-wrap canvas (1.5" deep) and hangs flat against the wall. It comes with a wire and needs no further framing - unless you want to.

Spring Blooms
14 x 11"  Oil on canvas
 starting bid: $150

In Northern California, it is not unusual for all the spring garden flowers to bloom all at once, after the rainy season. So it was with the irises, the roses, and most welcome of all, the peonies. The geraniums are like a support system for the rest of the garden, they are always there for you. Before the spring flowers fade, I thought it would be a good idea to go out there and paint them all!

Tulips in Solitude
14 x 11"  Oil on canvas
starting bid: $95

Like much of the world, during this time of pandemic, we are in quarantine - that is to say, sheltering in place. The joke among artists -visual artists - is that this is normal for us. But the sense of isolation is very strong, and shows itself in our work. That is certainly true for me, for this piece.

Painted on all sides of the canvas, it can be framed, or hung up just as it is. I am happy to put a wire on back if you wish.

The Reading Chair
11 x 14"  Oil on Canvas
sold

This painting is about many things: It is a study of warm and cool colors, a study of a study, a tribute (if you will) to these days of social isolation and sheltering in place.

Artistically, I was interested in contrasting the cool light from a window on a snowy day as it met with the warm light in a cozy room.  It's also a study of an interior - a reading corner - and trying to make the ordinary seem special. And finally, it's a small tribute to our current times, where we are forced to remain isolated, often indoors, protecting ourselves from the coronavirus pandemic.

My thanks to the photographer who worked patiently with my ideas!

This piece is spoken for, but I enjoy painting illustrations, and would certainly consider painting a favorite interior as a commission.

First Irises
14 x 11"   Oil on canvas
starting bid:  $125.

The first irises are blooming madly in my yard. Of course they must be brought inside. They are, to put it poetically, a herald of spring. Once inside, it seemed only right to paint them - and how quickly this painting came about. Some paintings need to be "just right," and you work tirelessly to get them that way, others just spill out onto the canvas. This was one of them.

Painted on all sides of the canvas, this piece can be framed, or you could just hang it up as it is, I am  happy to put a wire on back.

Peonies
14 x 11"  oil on canvas
sold

I wanted to paint a picture that came from the heart, needed no introduction or explanation, and satisfied my need to create something that I, myself, admired. Since it is a little early in the year to find a mix of  peonies in bloom, I had to use my imagination and some photos. So without a story line or actual set-up in front of me I came up with this - peonies on a table, something beautiful emerging out of the darkness.

When it is fully dry and varnished, I will get a fancy frame for it. For now I am selling it just as it is, unframed.
