Sunrise
9” x 12"  oil on canvas
 $ 75

Painting the sunrise was my challenge for the month. The Virtual Paintout went to the coastal region of Maine, and by using Google Street View, artists are invited (or challenged) to paint or draw what ever catches their eye - as long as the scene can be linked back to the street view. I found this scene on Little Deer Island, and knew it would look good with the light, pastel colors of dawn. The light is soft, it’s cool and quiet -  the first fishing boat has just come in. A bit minimalist, I agree, but fun to paint! (You can see the scene by clicking the link here.)

This paint covers on all sides of the canvas. It can be framed, but you could also hang it up just as it is.

 View From A Parking Lot
9" x 12"  oil on linen panel

I didn’t expect to find a spot so quickly, but when I got out of the car at Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve, this scene really called out to me. The layers of trees and hills just seemed to roll into each other and present the eye with a pleasing path all the way up into the low hanging clouds. This is a plein air painting, started on location but finished in the studio.
