Mystery Sunflowers

I came across this glass vase of sunflowers while on a walk one morning. There they were, just sitting in an empty driveway, and there they stayed for several days. What's the story here? I'm sure there is one...
This painting is painted on all sides, so it can be framed, or hung just as it is.
